It was good to be back in the DR!
We went back in the beginning of November to start on the building of our partners first Aquaponics System. It was also the first System that A Generous Life was involved in as well. It was an amazing time with our partners (Rafael, Felix, and Joel) in the DR. The only thing the wasn’t cooperating was the weather, with rain everyday. Rain delayed the construction process from sinking our sand truck to stoppage in building, but that didn’t shut us down. With the help of Felix our foreman the show went on and continued after we had to go home to the US (last two pictures were taken sent to us from Felix two weeks after we left).
We definitely appreciate the great partners in the DR, because without them this system would be dead. We met Felix back in August on our last full day in the Dominican, wow that was a blessing. That last day, our partner Rafael had told us about a local school that had a Aquaponics System. By that afternoon, myself and a couple of our board members were getting the full tour of that system. It was that day, that Felix our tour conductor/school head agreed to help us build the system in a Haitian Batey later in the year. With him on our team and the help of Matt (a board member) this system in the photos came to life.
The system is currently being finished by our partners, and Felix is currently teaching them how to operate it. Our goal with this system is just to help our partners build a system that would be the first of many steps for this community, to ultimately be able to sustain itself. Soon this community will have a little more to eat everyday, the vegetables are on the way thanks to everyone involved. When I say everyone involved that includes all of our partners and donors thanks again for everything, without all of you this would not have been possible.
“SUPER BUENO!”
