My first trip to the Dominican Republic was a blast. I went there with the intention of checking out a potential long term partner for A Generous Life and ended up having the time of my life. I can’t wait for my next trip back.
I went with our new partners Beyond the Game and was introduced to some amazing people struggling to help their people survive. This trip was set around free baseball clinics for the children of some poor areas in the capital city of Santo Domingo. I got to pull out and dust off my baseball glove and I had a blast. The people were awesome, the kids were incredible.
We also had the opportunity to visit a Haitian Batey about 30 minutes outside of the city. Wow, what bad conditions! This was the start of our new project, Food and Clean Water to Haitian Batey’s, click here for more info.
Late in the week I had the opportunity to meet Rafael. Thanks to Scott at Water for Our World, I was able to give Rafael a water filter. Currently families in his community feed local kids daily, but they also have to give the kids parasite medicine to clean their systems from the bad water in the DR. The first thing he said, is that with this filter he can take care of the kids better. At that moment I knew we chose the right person to give the filter to.
I can’t wait for A Generous Life’s next trip to the DR, the team is going to fall in love with the island and the people.
